Connect to Your Personal Purpose to Enhance Your Leadership Skills

Without purpose, a leader cannot flourish. Knowing and being able to share an inner purpose allows the leader to affirm that they are on this earth for a reason, they are connected to humanity.

Although your organization’s mission, vision, and values should be aligned with your purpose, they are not the same. It’s important to clearly define your personal purpose as a leader.

If all you pursue as a leader is knowledge acquisition day after day without understanding your purpose, at some point, you’ll plateau in your growth. However, if during this time you're pursuing wisdom, your exploration becomes endless as you gain a greater understanding of your life experiences and the timeless themes and value that identifies who you are.

We live in a flux of transitions and your purpose will shift over time. Your purpose guides life decisions, influences your actions and the direction your life takes. Taking the time to wisely define your purpose is key to living life.

Three Steps to Leadership Purpose

Step One: Identifying what you are curious about.

Identify those things in your life that drives your curiosity and make you come alive. What are the things that inspire you and you see the meaning behind your circumstances? These are key pieces that identify as a part of who you are. Putting together an initial statement will deliver a profound impact on your daily activities. The choices in your life can literally be life-changing.

Step Two: Determine if you are ready and willing to give the gift you have uncovered away.

As you head down the road of discovering your purpose, determine if you're ready and willing to give what you uncover cover in your purpose away. If you are, then your work and your life take on greater significance. You walk a path of purpose because you're beginning to accept that you have the ability to change your world.

Step Three: Show up with generosity and have fun.

Remember your purpose and be fully engaged. Show up with generosity and enjoy the journey.
